The course will enable practitioners working in the school environment to:

  • Better understand how a young person is shaped by relationships, and how their current context (post-covid, generation Z, social media, cost of living crisis) is heavily influencing their identity and worldview. We will explore how this presents itself in the environment of school.

  • Develop and understand a relational approach to working with young people, with Trauma Informed Values.

  • Develop tools that are easy to use and have proven to increase young people’s self awareness, giving them language to discuss what is going on for them under the surface.

  • We will offer a values driven framework that will support practitioners to develop positive secure relationships in order to bring about lasting changes in behaviour.

  • Reflect on their own practice, develop new skills, understand a values driven framework within which to work and consider the priorities that are important to develop in their own role within their context.

Working with young people in crisis - a relational approach.

The team at SHAPED have been working with students for the last 4 years. During this time we have developed a practical toolkit for practitioners working with young people with challenging behaviour. We have applied our understanding of Trauma Informed Practice in Education, and combined this with our experience of working with young people in crisis and other developmental tools.
